The #1 New York Times-bestselling author presents a riveting novel where a canine search and rescue volunteer fights danger and finds love in the Pacific Northwest wilderness.
To most people, Fiona Bristow seems to have an idyllic life-a quaint house on an island off Seattle's coast, a thriving dog-training school, and a challenging volunteer job performing canine search and rescues. Not to mention her three intensely loyal Labs. But Fiona got to this point by surviving a nightmare...
Several years ago, Fiona was the only survivor of the Red Scarf serial killer, who shot and killed Fiona's cop fiancé and his K-9 partner.
On Orcas Island, Fiona found the peace and solitude she needed to rebuild her life. But all that changes on the day Simon Doyle barrels up her drive, desperate for her help. He's the reluctant owner of an out-of-control puppy, foisted upon him by his mother. Jaws has eaten through Simon's house, and he's at his wit's end.
To Fiona, Jaws is nothing she can't handle. Simon, however, is another matter. A newcomer to Orcas, he's a rugged and in-tensely private artist, known for the exquisite furniture he creates from wood. Simon never wanted a puppy-and he most definitely doesn't want a woman. Besides, the lanky redhead is not his type. But tell that to his hormones.
As Fiona embarks on training Jaws, and Simon begins to appreciate both dog and trainer, the past tears back into Fiona's life. A copycat killer has emerged out of the shadows, a man whose bloodlust has been channeled by a master with one motive: to reclaim the woman who slipped out of his hands...

User Reviews about The Search
I read this on my Kindle, and it was the first Nora Roberts book I've experienced. I enjoyed it very much! What drew me to the story was the fact that it was a modern romance and that the story included dogs. I am an animal lover, what can I say? It took a little bit for the story to develop, but once it unfolded I had a hard time putting it down. Taking place in the San Juan Islands of Washington state, Fiona is haunted by the memory of a killer that nearly took her life, eight years prior. The serial killer did kill her fiance as punishment for escaping him. She immerses herself in her work with dog training and Search & Rescue. Now, eight years have passed and a copy cat killer is again stalking and killing young co-eds, with the exact same pattern. Meanwhile, a new guy in town with an overly rambunctious puppy is needing her help to get control of the bundle of energy. What ensues is the growing attraction between opposite personality types, and the replacement killer coming to make sure the "one that got away" won't get away again. I would love to see more stories about the lives of Fiona's friends, on Orcas Island. -- Romance, suspense and dogs too!
I'm not sure how I feel about this book. I love Nora, and really appreciate her stories that have an actual story line and not just 2 people meet, fall in love... This book has a great storyline. The problem I found is that it was awkward. Some of the things the characters say just didn't make sense. I don't know if it was a new style of writing, or if it just wasn't edited well, but it was confusing. I'd have to stop and read the sentence a few times before I figured out what they were talking about. The story moved slowly, and while I found the dog training and rescue scenes interesting, there were too many of them. A good Nora read, but not totally memorable. -- Not her best
The Search is a strong romantic suspense. It was a good serial murder read but had a lot of places to laugh also. Fiona Bristow is strong, smart and determined, but she's also warm, lovable, and likeable. Years ago, Fiona Bristow had the perfect life, a great fiance, an upcoming wedding, a loving family. Then the Red Scarf Killer entered her world. She was his only survivor. Her fiance and his police K-9 partner were dead. To help recover from the terrifying ordeal, Fiona moves to Orcas Island and starts a canine obedience and search and rescue training school. Since then, she's managed to find peace and be content with her life, until.....
